We had the pleasure of interviewing Rabbi David Seidenberg for radio613’s 5773 Tu Bishvat special. Rabbi Seidenberg is an educator in North America and the world about Jewish mysticism and ecology and Chasidic music as well as being the founder of neohasid.org, a website dedicated to helping Jews of any background integrate Chasidic song, learning, and nusach into their davenning and communities.
During our interview, we learned about Tu Bishvat rituals, The Four Worlds seder and more. With beautiful excerpts from Laura Wetzler’s Kabbalah Music: Songs of the Jewish Mystics, and some discussion and announcements related to the Idle No More movement and opposition to Enbridge’s proposed reversal of a pipeline passing through Ontario and Quebec, this is a spiritually engaging show not to be missed.

Last year’s podcast featuring readings of Isaac Bashevis Singer’s short Chanukah stories was quite popular. As such, we decided to present another set from Singer’s “The Power of Light: 8 Stories for Hanukkah”. Yes, we’re now in the nearly year long period of non-Chanukah, but we promise that the stories were read and recorded during this year’s chag ha’urim.
Here they are in segments with accompanying music by The Klezmer Conservatory Band, Andy Statman, Ot Azoj, and Shirim Klezmer Orchestra:

Chagim air-time proceeds. Following some harvest-y music, the show begins with a look at the succah as a check on opulence during a period of joy. In light of the succah’s symbol of the temporary nature of ownership, we explore some of what it means to live as a settler on stolen land. Joining us for this discussion is Matt – one of the organizers of the annual Anti-Colonial Thanksgiving Dinner in Guelph, ON, Turtle Island. Tune in for informative words and thoughts. The show concludes with a lament for the loss of Marek Edelman – the last surviving leader of the Warsaw Ghetto resistance, Bund Member, committed diasporist, cardiologist, and a lasting anti-fascist voice in Poland.
Music from Frank London’s Klezmer All-Stars, Klezmer Conservatory Band, and Testament.

radio613 episode 18! The Festival of Freedom goes to air broadcasting the Autonomous Seder 5769, held in Kingston on the first night of Passover. Jews, Muslims, political and spiritual allies gather to retell the story of Exodus. The Seder provided a forum to resist Pharaohs of all forms through songs, prayers and readings from a Passover Haggadah for Us, Koran and Torah teachings, and discussion. From Kadesh to Nirtzah, it’s maror for your ears!
Much thanks to all those who participated in this year’s Autonomous Seder.
